The 8th China Global Wood Trade Conference (GWT China), organized by China Timber & Wood Products Distribution Association and co-organized by WOOD MARKETS/FEA, will be held in Chongqing on Sept. 16-17, 2018.
In 2017, China imported 108.5 million m3 of timber, in which 55.4 million m3 of logs were imported, increasing 13.3% YoY. Meanwhile, China imported 37.4 million m3 of lumber (an increase of 19.31% YoY). According to CTWPDA’s estimation, timber demand in 2018 will continue to grow at a steady rate.
China Global Wood Trade Conference (GWT China) is an annual event where global wood traders meet in China. Established to facilitate and promote information exchange and business cooperation for global wood trade community in 2011, GWT China takes place in one of China’s major port cities each year. Till now, seven cities, which are Tianjin, Taicang, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Shanghai, Wuhan and Chengdu, have witnessed the remarkable success of previous GWT China Conferences. Every year, GWT China attracts more than 350 participants, including wood suppliers, importers, wholesalers, distributors, manufacturers as well as trade associations, industry experts, government officials and representatives of international organizations from more than 20 countries.
As the biggest economic center of upper reach of Yangtze River, Chongqing is a city of strategic importance in the southwest industry and commerce, the center of national important hi-tech and intelligent production, and is also an important strategic city superimposed on the Yangtze River economic zone, the Belt and Road, Chengdu and Chongqing economic circle. Chongqing is backed by a large market with a population of 30 million people and is exposed to southwest China, and even the southeast and central Asia.
For a long time, Chongqing has been famed as the capital of wooden doors. Now, with the remarkable advantages of location and enormous potential market, Chongqing is making all efforts to build a multi-industry park of wood trade, storage, manufacturing, etc.
In 2018, the 8th GWT China aims to provide a platform to figure out future opportunities and challenges worldwide, meanwhile offering an insight into wood processing and trade of Chongqing. Additionally, the Conference works as a bridge between inland wood enterprises and global wood suppliers and manufacturers to push forward better communication within the industry and the sustainable development of wood trade, both at home and abroad.

China Timber & Wood Products Distribution Association (CTWPDA), established in 1985 upon the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, is a non-profit organization voluntarily joined by enterprises, institutions and individuals engaged in the timber and wood products processing and distribution industry. For 30 years, it has been working toward bridging the communication between private sector and policy making agencies, protecting interests of members, promoting good practices and building a good reputation of the Chinese timber and wood products industry. The association is subject to the administration of Ministry of Civil Affairs and the supervision and guidance of the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council.
CTWPDA’s current membership consists of over 3000 members who are engaged in timber importing, exporting and wholesaling as well as manufacturing, marketing and exporting of wood products.
